Original works in watercolor and acrylic exploring emotion, memory and identity through abstract portraiture

"Metamorphosis"
This piece explores how neurological changes reshape identity, connection, and perception. Inspired by the lived experience of dementia, it reflects the disorienting loss of mutual recognition and the emotional fragmentation that can follow. The butterfly, a symbol of transformation, emerges from this complexity—its wings formed by imaginal cells, the quiet architects of change inside the cocoon. In the same way, moments of meaning, connection, and selfhood can still stir within even as parts of the mind recede. Transformation in dementia may not always be visible, but it is unfolding.

"The Shaman"
This is a visual of how changes in the brain—whether through dementia, altered states, or profound emotional experiences—transform how we see, speak, and make sense of the world. The shifting colors across brain regions reflect this perceptual and emotional variation. The white around the eyes symbolizes how, in moments of awe or transcendence, our perceptions can feel especially true—like we’re speaking and seeing from the most authentic part of ourselves. Even as cognitive functions shift, these states remind us of the sacred and deeply human need to feel real, connected, and known.

"Through Music Waves"
Even in dementia, music can reach places language no longer can.
This piece captures two people (one with language: right, one without: left) connecting — not through conversation, but through a Neil Young song.
